Charter School Governance Board

Mission

Stephen Foster Elementary Charter School creates partnerships among students, staff, parents and community members to serve a diverse population of learners comprised of neighborhood and open enrolled students in grades PK-6.

Vision

Stephen Foster Elementary Charter School develops independent learners who: honor diversity; show respect for themselves, others, and the environment; and seek to use their unique strengths to lead efforts to improve the world around them.

Foster Elementary Charter School is a small, diverse, and close-knit community dedicated to fostering personal growth and providing individualized attention for every student. As a public charter school, we have the flexibility to tailor our educational approach to meet our students' unique needs while ensuring they achieve mastery in skills and content, all while adhering to public education standards.

At Foster, this flexibility is evident in our curriculum. We are one of the few elementary schools in the Appleton Area School District to adopt the Illustrative Math program school-wide. Our English Language Arts resources, including Wit & Wisdom, UFLI, and HD Word, further support a well-rounded education with a strong emphasis on building background knowledge, vocabulary, and phonics.

We are committed to developing future global leaders, a focus that is intricately woven throughout our curriculum. Leadership qualities are nurtured and celebrated through monthly school-wide recognitions at Monday Morning Meetings and various grade level service projects, which allow students to address community needs and concerns, thereby building their leadership skills.

While our flexibility empowers us to innovate, it also brings increased accountability. The Foster Elementary Charter School Governance Board, composed of parents, community members, and staff, oversees curriculum implementation, budget decisions, and overall school activities to ensure student success. All parents are encouraged to attend the monthly board meetings, with dates and times announced in advance.

Membership

Stephen Foster Elementary Charter School Board members serve terms for one year, beginning July 1. New members are accepted throughout the year and we welcome interest from all parents, staff, and community members!
